The AeroPress is a little powerhouse: compact, quick and capable of a truly delicious cup. Gentle pressure extracts bold, smooth flavours with minimal fuss. You can use espresso or filter roasts, but for this recipe we recommend a filter roast for the best balance.
You'll need
- AeroPress or AeroPress Go
- AeroPress paper filters
- Grinder
- Scales
- Kettle
You'll use
- 12 g coffee, medium grind (like caster sugar)
- 200 ml hot water, 93–96°C (heat to 97°C before brewing)
- Milk (optional), heated to 55–65°C
How to brew
- Prep. Put a paper filter in the cap and rinse it well with hot water.
- Set up. Place your AeroPress in the inverted position, with the cap end facing up.
- Add coffee. Grind 12 g of coffee, pour it into the chamber and shake gently to level.
- Add water. Put the AeroPress on your scales, tare, start your timer and pour 200 g of hot water in slow circles.
- Stir. Give it five quick stirs, then screw on the cap with the rinsed filter.
- Flip. At 1:45, carefully flip the AeroPress onto your cup or server.
- Press. At 2:00, press down slowly and firmly for 20 to 30 seconds, and stop when you hear the hiss.
- Enjoy. You should have a rich, clean cup by about 2:30.
Tips
- Hard to press? Grind a little coarser.
- Too easy or watery? Grind a little finer.
