At Shavi Coffee Roasters, we know that great coffee starts with high-quality beans—but how you brew them can make all the difference. Here are some essential tips to help you brew the perfect cup every time:
1. Use Freshly Ground Coffee
The freshness of your coffee greatly impacts the flavor. For the best results, grind your beans just before brewing. A burr grinder ensures an even grind, which is crucial for proper extraction.

2. Measure Your Coffee and Water
A consistent ratio of coffee to water is key to a balanced brew. The golden ratio for filter is about 1:15–1:18, meaning 1 gram of coffee for every 15-18 grams of water. And for espresso 1:2 – 1:2,5. Adjust according to your taste preference.
3. Choose the Right Grind Size
Grind size varies depending on your brewing method. Use a coarse grind for a French press, medium grind for drip coffee, and fine grind for espresso. If your coffee tastes too sour, try a finer grind; if it’s too bitter, try a coarser one.
4. Control Water Temperature
The ideal water temperature for brewing is between 90–96°C (195–205°F). If the water is too hot, it can burn the coffee, resulting in a bitter taste. Too cold, and the coffee will be under-extracted and sour.
5. Mind Your Brew Time
Brew time also varies depending on the method. For example, pour-over methods usually take 2-4 minutes, while French press takes about 4 minutes. Under-brewing leads to sourness, while over-brewing can make your coffee taste bitter.

6. Experiment with Brewing Methods
Each brewing method, whether it's pour-over, French press, AeroPress, or espresso, brings out different aspects of the coffee’s flavor. Experimenting with different techniques can help you discover new taste profiles in your favorite beans.
7. Clean Your Equipment
Regular cleaning of your coffee maker, grinder, and other equipment prevents the buildup of coffee oils and old grounds, which can negatively affect the taste.
